Christmas Bread

Preheat oven to 350°F | cook time 60 mins | prep-time 45 mins | makes 8 servings

Dough Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp juice from an orange
  • *2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder

Sugar Mixture

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • dash of nutmeg
  • dash of cloves

Cranberry Sauce

  • 1/3 cup juice from an orange
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 8 oz (1 ¼ c) cranberries

Icing Ingredients

  • 3 tbs milk
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbs orange zest

Cranberry Sauce Directions

  1. Add all ingredients together in a sauce pan on a medium heat.
  2. Once berries soften mash mixture
  3. Stir continuly on until sauce begins to bubble and thicken.
  4. Set aside and let cool

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar for two minutes until well blended. Add in eggs, juice and milk.
  2. Stir flour and baking powder. Slowly add to wet mixture. Mixing until combined, and dough comes together.  NOTE: if you want, you can split the dough in half and add 1 tbsp of cinnamon and create a marble effect in your bread.
  3. Knead dough for 2-3 minutes.
  4. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and spices. Set aside.
  5. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or silicon baking sheet. Place dough on baking sheet and roll flat
  6. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar over the bread.
  7. Fold in half and roll flat until it is the length of the bread pan.
  8. Spread cranberry mixture over the dough.
  9. Roll  into a log and set in a well buttered bread pan.
  10. Bake at 350 for one hour, or until slightly browned and no longer gooey.
  11. Set aside and let cool

Icing Direction

  1. Add all ingredient in a bowl. Mix until smooth.
  2. Brush over cooled bread.
  3. Sift powdered sugar over the top
  4. Slice into 1/2 inch slices and enjoy!
